We held an Impact Data Chat focused on international migration and human rights protection in mid February.

A rich discussion and experience sharing occurred with experts in the field. A variety of resources were shared--from databases, and research reports, to general resources on the topic.

Notes and Recommendations from the Discussion

• Idea on developing a platform for human rights and migration, with subnational data and gender analysis.
• Need for creating a database to track the stories of individuals and organizations, rather than solely focusing on success stories.
• Need for analyzing data on migrant flows to tell a more nuanced story about push and pull factors, and the impact of interventions on migration.
• Migration and health in Malawi project (internal migration as a key step in international migration)
• Census microdata for analyzing migration flows, even regionally like within SSA
• Explore what has been created in ArcGIS, especially story maps.
• Highlight the lack of data on young people's experiences as migrants, emphasizing the importance of considering their unique perspectives.
• In general using Tik Tok or other less conventional data to track migration, for example migrants sharing personal stories of migration on TikTok and Instagram, empowering others to follow in their footsteps.
